Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto
First Floor Library
252 Bloor St. W
Toronto, ON
Our daily news is filled with reports about the consequences of the recent economic crisis. Our traditional economic approach has left people jobless, industries cutting back and local businesses closing. In these troubled economic times, how can we support the future of our communities? How can we invest in sustainable community development while at the same time contribute to wider economic change?
The Social Economy Centre of the University of Toronto is completing a five year research project that examined how co-operatives, nonprofits, community economic development corporations, and other social enterprises contribute to the economic wellbeing of our communities. Please join us to celebrate our work and to look to the future.
Keynote:
The Social Economy: A New Way to Manage Wealth
Michel Labbé, President and Founder of Options for Homes and more recently Options for Green Energy.
Two exciting panels:
Voices of the Social Economy: Lessons from Quebec and practices in Ontario
Towards a People’s Centered Economy / Procurement for a People's Economy
Interactive sessions with academic and community researchers who will share their work and insights. Short workshops on topics relevant to social economy organizations.
